The gift of confidence

Updated: Jan 2, 2020

I'm sending you the special gift of confidence this holiday season. Enjoy your Friday5 and feel free to share your present with others.

The gift that keeps on giving

Confidence is an essential life skill, but very few truly understand it.

I've studied the art of confidence for decades and am still learning. Here are some strategies to dial in your self-concept so you can project an "I can" aura almost all the time.

1. No one has enough self-esteem

I don't teach "self-esteem" in my keynotes or seminars, but it's a critical component of nearly every Present Like a Pro lesson. We can all feel better about ourselves. Watch the video below for the story of how I got my first lesson in self-esteem at age six. Then give the lesson to your kids and grand-kids.

2. How you feel is a choice Emotions and feelings are yours to manage. Your father-in-law cannot make you angry during Christmas dinner. You allow yourself to be angered by him--or not.

3. You were born with tons of confidence

But society mostly teaches us self-doubt. Get your head straight with these Top 10 Excuses for Not Being Great.

4. Find a role model

Confidence is infectious. You can get it from strangers. Spend time online with Tony Robbins, Mel Robbins, Brendon Burchard, Les Brown and Gary Vaynerchuk (if you don't mind the cursing).

Nutrition expert, Rene Pothetes, introduced me to Dr. Joe Dispenza a while back and I love his approach to confidence and wellness.

5. Focus on what's important

Yeah, you could watch The Grinch Who Stole Christmas for the thousandth time next week.

But if you really want to feel better about yourself this holiday season, check out The Last Lecture.

It's an amazing performance from college professor, Randy Pausch, who delivers a final master class as he's dying of pancreatic cancer. You'll be hooked in ten seconds and choose to make the most of this precious present.
